The Impact
Circonomy recently partnered with Stockland on a food tenancy de-fit project at one of its retail town centres. Stockland is committed to exploring the vast potential of repurposing and recovering fitout materials, responding to an increasing demand for sustainable solutions among tenants across its town centre portfolio.
What's The Issue?
Facing a significant waste challenge in the Australian fitouts sector, this collaboration not only tackles this issue but also sets a new benchmark for sustainable retail space development. The industry generates about 6.3 tonnes of waste per 100 square metres of office space, much of which ends up in landfills, exacerbated by the short fitout lifespan of fewer than nine years due to tenant turnover.
How Did We Solve This?
Through our integrated asset management tool and rehoming strategy, we were able to:
- Donate kitchen fittings and equipment to a community organisation
- Repurpose cabinet joinery to reduce reliance on virgin forestry and carbon production
- Recycle waste through a construction and demolition centre to minimise landfill
